Janice Jones – 52 Pick Me Up Card of the Week

52 Pick Me Up is a community-based sports heritage project celebrating the year of Sport in Aurora and this week’s pick is Janice Jones.

Through the collaborative effort between The Aurora Heritage Authority, the Aurora Museum & Archives, Boulevard Design, Sport Aurora and the Aurora Sport Hall of Fame a set of collectable cards will be released weekly at a variety of events and locations throughout the Town of Aurora. The distribution point for each card will be published in The Auroran and here on the Living in Aurora site.

Card of the week : The Five of Spades

Janice Jones

After representing Canada in the 1959 Pan Am Games Janice Jones went on to start the Aurora Ladies Volleyball League in 1979.  Janice Jones was the Canadian Masters Swimming champion in 50,100 &200 breaststroke in 1991. The next year she took home the Bronze medal in 50 breaststroke in the 1992 IV World Masters Swimming Championships.  Then 2 years later at the 1994 V World Masters Swimming Championship she brought home the Silver Medal in 50 breaststroke.  In 1997 Jones was recognized by the OFSAA (Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations) for the Leadership in School Sport Award as Ontario Swimming Coach of the Year.
