The so known Knowles Butcher Shop on 9 Wellington Street East is a long-standing building in Aurora, c. 1885. On June 25th, 2021 the building caught fire and sustained damage. According to the CYFS (Central York Fire Services) issued Incident Report no injuries were reported; however, unfortunately two of the tenant’s pets were lost in the fire. Also, cause of fire is still under investigation according to the same report.
However, according to the local paper The Auroran: “CYFS Deputy Chief Jeremy Inglis said the call was for smoke within the building but a fire on the roof was soon found. “They were doing some roof maintenance and it looks like that is what started it up,” said Inglis, noting that it took fire crews, including supports from outside fire services, approximately two hours to get the fire under control.“
To date no one knows what will happened to the building. Lets hope that it’s not a demolition.
The following are series of photos I took few hours after the major fire was contained, and CYFS was working hard on hotspots and fire that had seated within voids in the ceiling and walls, in some instances creating lot of smoke.
