Entertainer in the Park: What Makes Children Smile – The Magic Show

It was definitely a perfect conclusion to our trip around Aurora that day—three playgrounds, and a surprise at the last one – the magic show.

Unexpected magic show today. We had planned to visit the Aurora Public Library after playing at the Town Park playground, but we totally forgot that it’s closed on Monday mornings. The library doesn’t open until later in the day on Mondays.

Matthew always has a blast at the Town Park playground. With the cooler summer days, the splash pad wasn’t really our thing, but we were pleasantly surprised by the magic show at another park we visited later on.

We had to come up with a Plan B. Instead of hiking or shopping, we decided to drive along Kennedy Road and stumbled upon a playground we’d never been to before—William Kennedy Park. Matthew had a great time running, climbing, jumping, snacking, and playing with other kids.

We thought our playtime was over as we started driving home, but as they say, life is full of surprises. Matthew spotted Coach Steve from the window and really wanted to stop by Hamilton Park to see him.

Let me tell you about Coach Steve. He’s not just our neighbour; he’s a kids’ entertainer on our street. Coach Steve always goes out of his way to engage with the kids, and they absolutely adore him. Whether he’s making bubbles or blowing up balloons, he never fails to bring a smile to their faces and fill the air with laughter.

He was also Matthew’s play-ball coach for a summer sports program coordinated by the Town of Aurora, which Matthew attended this year.

This was the first time we enrolled Matthew in a group sports activity, and having Steve as a coach made all the difference. It turned into an unforgettable experience, not just for Matthew, but for us as well, watching him have fun while learning in a group environment.

Steve’s coaching style and entertaining methods are not only fun but also educational, helping kids enjoy themselves while learning at the same time.

On a side note, a week has passed, and I still haven’t figured out how the magic colouring book works.

Hi Anna, Matthew is huge! And gorgeous, as always. Coach Steve seems like a great chap: and we can see that children are happy around him. The photo where Matthew and a girl are sitting, paying attention to the show is so cute! Thanks for sharing and I am becoming a fan of Aurora. Cheers.

As I reflect on my experiences as a resident engaged in municipal politics, I find myself often swept up in the currents of past political moments. These reflections aren't just about policies or decisions but about the broader shifts in how we've navigated civic life. The sense of nostalgia isn't just for the times when things felt simpler, but for a period when political engagement seemed more direct, more personal. As someone actively involved in the shifting dynamics of municipal issues, I often find myself questioning where the passion and clarity of earlier days have disappeared—and whether today's politics can ever reclaim that same sense of purpose.
