community FOCUS Website for Aurora: A Different Kind of Walk Today

Today, let me take you on a walk. Not outside, and not inside, but a virtual walk. A walk through the newly launched site for the Town of Aurora community: the FOCUS Virtual site, LivingInAurora.COM. It took a lot of time and effort to assemble, and we are thrilled to have it up and running!

Let me tell you more about it.

The name says it all. The community FOCUS site is made for you. It’s a space where you can write about anything, with a special focus on Aurora. Whether you want to express your views, share opinions, raise issues, start discussions, or even share the news, this site is for you. You can write essays, stories, and much more.

The site is organized into specific areas of interest, and as content grows, more categories will be introduced. You can even suggest topics you’d like to see covered!

UPDATE (2024): The site has been renamed to Living in Aurora BLOG. It no longer takes blog submissions, but feel free to reach out to me, and I may consider your ideas.

I am excited to announce that I’ve teamed up with Matt Maddocks, who will be writing a regular column for us called ‘Point of Privilege,’ focusing on the town’s politics. Matt is a familiar name in our local newspaper, The Auroran, as well as various Aurora blogs. Stay tuned for his first post on our community FOCUS site!

To avoid overwhelming you, I’ll wrap up my virtual walk for today and encourage you to explore the site yourself – community FOCUS at LivingInAurora.COM. There are plenty of exciting writing opportunities available for everyone.

Don’t worry, I’ll continue to write on this blog as well. Just to add to the confusion, this photo journal blog is LivingInAurora.CA, while the community FOCUS site is LivingInAurora.COM.

UPDATE (2024): LivingInAurora.ca will eventually be archived once all blog posts from the (.ca) domain are migrated and updated to the (.com) domain.

As I reflect on my experiences as a resident engaged in municipal politics, I find myself often swept up in the currents of past political moments. These reflections aren't just about policies or decisions but about the broader shifts in how we've navigated civic life. The sense of nostalgia isn't just for the times when things felt simpler, but for a period when political engagement seemed more direct, more personal. As someone actively involved in the shifting dynamics of municipal issues, I often find myself questioning where the passion and clarity of earlier days have disappeared—and whether today's politics can ever reclaim that same sense of purpose.
