If you are curious about the sudden cancellation of last night’s General Committee meeting (January 16, 2024), here is why: a long deliberation on the three items in the Closed Session meeting until 8:40 pm. Two of the items were related to the over budget and not yet completed Aurora Town Square $60M plus project.
Highlight of the closed session meeting: Aurora Town Square budget increased again, this time by $600,000. The project is supposed to be completed in August 2022. The $100,000 grand opening celebrations are planned sometime this year.
4.2 Council Closed Session Report No. CMS24-003 – Aurora Town Square – Contract Negotiations Update
Clerk: “The motion for Item 4.2 Council reporting from close session is to receive the report that the project budget for the Aurora Town Square be increased by $600,000 to $53,739,700 and that the increase be funded from funds collected as part of the capital campaign and that the close session report be released publicly at an appropriate time.“
