St. John’s Sideroad Today, West of Leslie Street Aurora ON

This is the upgraded St. John’s sideroad in Aurora ON looking West. We went for a drive today in the morning to check out the area and to take a few street view photos after the major reconstruction. The grading is definitely different. We have a new underpass still in working progress. The cell tower doesn’t have the Town of Aurora logo, perhaps temporarily due to a potential maintenance done on the tower.

To accommodate growth, York Region is widening and improving Leslie Street, from Wellington Street to Mulock Drive and St. John’s Sideroad, from Bayview Avenue to Woodbine Avenue in the Town of Aurora, Town of Newmarket and Town of Whitchurch-Stouffville.” Source: Leslie Street and St. John’s Sideroad Road Improvements.

St. John's sideroad

Now, about the St. John’s sideroad view. I have mixed feelings even though functionality over appearance is more important for the growth in Aurora. The upgraded road looks too perfect and too geometric, nothing like before. Hopefully when the spring comes the green trees and the green grass will mess up the perfect lines a bit; or eventually some of us will get used to the new look and forget how it used to be. Occasionally I wonder why some people call Aurora, a City of Aurora; and perhaps this is the reason but I doubt.

Update, sometime in 2019 York Region planted more trees near the sidewalks and in the middle separating the East from West traffic. Soon this area is going to look more green and less geometric.
