My name is Vicky McGrath and I am registered as a candidate for Aurora Council. I hope I can count on your vote on October 22! If elected, I promise to work on your behalf and be a strong voice for Aurora.
I am the owner of Nurse Next Door Home Care Services’ Aurora location, employing approximately 50 staff, many from Aurora. I have a husband, Jeff, 13 year-old daughter, Sydney and an eight year-old whippet, Chesney and we live in the neighbourhood at St John’s/Leslie.
With 20 years’ experience in municipal and provincial government, an undergraduate degree from Trent University and a Master’s degree from Cambridge University, I have skills and experience I would like to share at Council.
My “platform” is summarized as:
* liveable community
* strong voice for business
As the population of Aurora ages, special consideration must be given to supporting an accessible, age- and pedestrian-friendly community, with access to greenspace, employment, recreation, entertainment and shopping.
In addition, I believe greater communication is needed between the Town and the business community, to ensure businesses are able to succeed and attract and retain skilled, experienced employees that contribute to their success.
Further, having experience with the Provincial Planning Act, the Municipal Act and the Places to Grow Act, among others, I would work on your behalf to ensure sustainable growth and fiscal responsibility at the Council table.
I have volunteered on the Board of Directors and Advocacy Committee for the Aurora Chamber of Commerce, I volunteer weekly at Southlake Hospital; My business, Nurse Next Door, has been a sponsor for the Run/Walk for Southlake and I have run myself in the event. In addition, my dog Chesney and I have recently become part of the St John Ambulance Therapy Dog program where we will visit retirement communities, hospitals and assist with community events.
I would like to better understand the concerns of residents and businesses and bring these to the table at Council. I hope I can count on your vote on October 22!
