By Jenn Kelner, Aurora ON. I love this time of year because there are so many fall activities for families to enjoy. Last weekend the Fire Station in Aurora was holding an open house for kids to come and learn about fire safety, so we took the family to check it out. After arriving at the fire station via the Tim Horton Express Train, kids were given their very own fire helmet to take home. They were also given a safety passport which got stamped every time they completed a fire safety station. My kids got to try on a fireman’s uniform, bounce down a fire truck bouncy slide, meet “Sparky the Fire Dog”, and spray water from the fire hose at a burning house. It was an afternoon packed full of fire safety activities, and they enjoyed every minute of it.
In addition to visiting the fire station, we also headed to Brooks Farms in Mount Albert for their Fall Fun Festival. When we arrived they were just starting their Pumpkin Cannon Show, which is basically as awesome as it sounds. Pumpkins explode as they hit the ground after being launched from various sized cannons, much to every child’s delight. They also have train rides, zip lines, duck races, pig races, straw pyramids, a pirate ship, a jumping pillow and lots of different farm animals. After we got our fill of barnyard fun, we headed over to the apple orchard to pick some apples. Since it was a bit late in the season there wasn’t much to choose from, but we did manage to get a bag-full. My kids loved eating fresh apples straight from the tree. This was our first time visiting Brooks Farms and I’m sure it won’t be the last.
